Talk title: Visual attention as a window into understanding brain development in autism and fragile X syndrome
Abstract: Visual processing can provide a window onto the broader capabilities of the developing brain. Our laboratory has for years been involved in assessing different aspects of visual attention in children with and without developmental disorders, including low-level motion and coherence processing, higher-level violation of expectation, and attentional biases towards certain types of emotion information. Our findings have illustrated how eye movements can be used to uncover development of brain functioning in both typically and atypically developing children and in some cases provide suggested avenues for treatment
