Talk title: Genes and social behavior – what can we learn from monogenic disorders

Abstract: Social behavior develops at the intersection of genetics, environment, and culture.  Divergent social behaviors have been reported in both polygenic and monogenic neurodevelopmental disorders, with genes influencing behavior by their effect on brain development and function during sensitive periods. Using recent data from our work in SYNGAP1, I’ll put forth a framework for understanding the interplay between sensory processing and social and maladaptive behaviors.
